Sugarcandy

Using Sugarcandy

Send these from your SMS-capable mobile phone to use sugarcandy. (And remember that all commands start with an exclamation point: "!"

!make
make a group
Send it to groupname@sgrcndy.com to create a new group with that e-mail address. For example, sending "!make" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will create a new group called "artparty" (unless that group already exists).
!join
join a group
Send it to groupname@sgrcndy.com to join an existing group. For example, sending "!join" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will subscribe you to a group called "artparty" (unless that group doesn't exist or is private).
!invite
invite people
Send it followed by a sugarcandy nickname or full mobile e-mail address to groupname@sgrcndy.com to invite someone to this group. You must be subscribed to the group and the group must be open (or you must be the group's creator or admin) for this to work. For example, sending "!invite bob" or "!invite 2125551234@messaging.sprintpcs.com" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will invite the user with that nickname or that mobile e-mail address. Note: At this point, it may be easier to just text your invitee with a normal text message giving them quick instructions: "Hey, join my group. Text '!join' to 'mygroup@sgrcndy.com'!!" Or just call them and tell them. It's quick and easy! Or get your friends to sign up and change their nicks to something you know so it's easier for you to invite them to groups.
!leave
leave a group
Send it to groupname@sgrcndy.com to join an existing group. For example, sending "!join" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will subscribe you to a group called "artparty" (unless that group doesn't exist or is private).
!nick
change your nickname
Send it followed by a new nickname to any sgrcndy.com address to change your nickname to something besides "anon24525" (or whatever default nickname you're given). Nicknames can't contain spaces. For example, sending "!nick bob" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will make it so when you chat, other people see your messages as coming from "bob". This is a really good thing to do first! So everyone knows who you are.
!peek
see what's going on
Send it to groupname@sgrcndy.com to see an overview of that group's activity. You don't have to be subscribed to the group (but the group must be public). For example, sending "!peek" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will tell you how many users are in the group and some other quick info.
Anything else
chat!
Send any text not starting with "!" to groupname@sgrcndy.com to send a message to everyone subscribed to that group! (You must use "!join" to subscribe to the group or "!make" to make the group first, of course.) For example, sending "Hey, everybody!" to "artparty@sgrcndy.com" will send "Hey, everybody!" to everyone who has joined "artparty".

Registration: The first time you send a message to any sgrcndy.com address from your phone, you will automatically be registered as a user and give an anonymous nickname and password which you will be able to use to log into this site's user section in the near future.

It's that easy! You'll get a hang of it in no time.

There are, of course, more commands. But these should get you going. We'll provide a complete user guide soon!

Uses

Here are some scenarios in which sugarcandy would be of great use:

You're travelling with friends. Get everybody on sugarcandy so that when you separate you can easily find each other. Arrange meeting points! And if one of you comes across something great, it's a snap to let everyone in your group know so no one misses out.

You want to get a drink! If you set up a group of your drinking buds who live in your neighborhood, just send out a message: "Who's looking to get out tonight?!" Communicate with everyone at once. Who's free? Who's not? Beats making a jillion phone calls.

You've got a project team working from all over the city or country. Allen's in Austin. Barry's in Boston. Claire's in Chicago. Dan's in Detroit. With sugarcandy, your group can easily stay in touch and stay coordinated, whether you're all in front of a computer or not. And whether you are all in the same city or not, organizing meetings is a snap with sugarcandy.

These are but a few of the possible uses of sugarcandy! And in the coming weeks we'll be launching even more great new features...
